The Northern Ireland Coast

Sparkling turquoise waters reflect the cloudless sky and a curving beach of pristine
   golden sand,
the undulating columns of a black hexagonal basalt causeway created as though by
   a giant’s hand,
the obsidian silhouette of Dunluce Castle sits on a headland that plunges steeply
   down into the sea,
the footbridge over dark rocks  is lit by a radiant golden summer sunset as far as the
 eye can see.

A famous arched tree cathedral is formed by canopied silver boughs along a quiet
  country lane,
a shadowed contrast to the emerald grass verges and fields nourished by plentiful
   springtime rain,
Mussenden Temple, a circular Victorian clifftop library watches the hypnotic ebb and
     flow of the waves,
a fleeting glimpse of a colourful artist’s palette rainbow viewed through the arch of
     Mermaid’s Cave.

Looking down into Glenariff with distant sea views, hearing only the whisper of the
       wind and watching birds soar,
transient sunlight and cloud create fluid shadows on patchwork fields along the
 sloping glen floor,
the eloquent rhythmical drumbeat of traditional Irish folk music briefly entertains
  from an open door,
the sweeping silence of the monumental snow covered peaks of an imposing black
 granite tor.

Mount Stewart’s woodland walk with flowering pink rhododendrons and fragrant
   bluebells in cornflower blue,
a pointed tower sits on gorse covered rocks overlooking a tranquil lough offering
 a wide panoramic view,
with spectacular landscape and ever-changing seasons, weather, tides and wildlife,
this area you loved so dear,
when I think of or see Northern Ireland’s coast, so full of natural beauty,
this brings you ever closer, brings you ever near.

In loving memory of Jane Farthing 1929 – 2017

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.

My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s love of The Northern Ireland Coast.

My poems have been very well recieved at both church and crematorium services, adding a very personal accolade.
