The distinctive high peaked shape of a vintage pleasure
wherry’s large rectangular white canvas sail,
a gossamer yellow and blue butterfly delicately feeding
on purple thistle flowers, the rare Swallowtail.
The early morning beauty of sunlit glistening iridescent
dew crystals prisms on a diaphanous spider’s web,
a sailing yacht patiently waits at the wide open expanse of
Breydon Water for the incoming tidal water to ebb.
The exquisite lemon coloured flowers of an isolated rare
Fen Orchid bloom unobserved across distant marsh,
a small companionable herd of Polish dun coloured
Konik ponies studiously graze tall flowering grass.
The accomplished flight of monochrome swallows
skimming the smooth sparkling water, so swift of wing,
across an artist’s palette of muted colours of blue, green
and brown, the faint chimes of church bells ring.
Elevated feathered white cirrocumulus clouds tinted pink
by a setting sun create an evanescent autumn sunset,
reflected in the dark mirrored still twilight water of
Ranworth Broad, the onyx shadow of a boat’s silhouette.
The distinctive honking dawn call of a flock of departing
Canada geese leaving their roost at first light,
the rhythmical whoosh of their wings, almost silent
overhead quietly conveys their departing flight.
Tall golden reed stems gently touch in light transient winds
creating a whispering sound, almost a sigh,
the unique habitat of the Norfolk Broads is a pleasure at any
time of year, underneath wide East Anglian skies.
