The Lake District

Wandering to unknown destinations, white cumulus clouds glide silently above on
a sky of pure cornflower blue,
the landscape’s deep emerald green valleys sculpted by monumental glaciers barely
changed in the millennia old view,
flowering in late April, the gentle fragrance and rich indigo colour of quintessential
woodland bluebells,
the timeless plaintive chorus of mothers and lambs calling and playing carried by wind
  from a distant fell.

In the sheltered lea of a grey moss covered rock, a cluster of alpine saxifrage flower
in delicate candy floss pink,
towering imposing indigo craggy peaks are silhouetted with metallic gold as an
 evening sun gently sinks,
a prodigious lone pillar supports a quarry’s vaulted cathedral nave ceiling created
 by mined copper rich stone,
stalwart native black Fell ponies have grazed high land for numerable centuries,
the low fells their home.

The tumultuous roar of tumbling crystal clear spring water hitting black rocks
from a nearby waterfall,
in slumbering autumn, the reverberating echo around silent sweeping fells as a
 territorial deer stag calls,
undulating grey stone walls are embellished with patches of speckled lichen
in white, silver and green,
stationary on a weathered gate post illuminated by candescent moonlight, a
watchful barn owl can be seen.

A cherry red bullfinch takes temporary shelter in a wild plum tree lightly dusted
 with pristine snow,
a stark rocky outcrop adorned with a luxurious carpet of heather’s purple flowers
overlooks white cottages far below,
a smooth lake reflects a reverse image of autumnal bracken fronds encompassed
 by shadowed sentinel hills,
rocky crags and verdant valleys engender an appreciation for the complexity of nature,
 that this beautiful landscape instills.
