The four seasons funeral poem for directors and celebrants
A 10 verse poem is available at the foot of the page.

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.
My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s joy of nature and how they enjoyed the changing seasons throughout the year. Also, how a calendar year represents the “seasons’ of our lives.
My poems have been very well received at both church and crematorium services, by funeral directors and celebrants, and add a very personal accolade.

Floating on tranquil evening air, the rich fragrance of wild yellow
honeysuckle interwoven with a prickly hedge of blackthorn,
a resident melodic blackbird initiates the celebratory chorus
that announces the arrival of a new day’s breaking dawn.

A prodigious dust-tinted orange harvest moon rises above
the linear shadowed distant horizon, many miles away,
ephemeral red Admiral and Peacock butterflies alight to feed
on flowers’ abundant nectar released by golden sun’s rays.

The overnight woodland emergence of a colourful red and white
spotted toadstool with it’s fluted skirt of delicate white frills,
an autumnal harvest of burnished brown conkers lay encased in
spiked green husks on a nebulous October morn, calm and still.

Nature’s luxurious carpet of fallen leaves in russet red, burnished
amber and green are painted with frost’s crystalline white,
perched in nearby trees, adjacent and distant tawny owls call under

the glittering starlit canopy of an ebony velvet winter’s night.

Sea sculpted clifftops overlook an icy windswept deserted beach
embellished with a transient dusting of pristine snow,
adjoining the tempestuous pewter sea with white horses riding
the breaking crests of volatile waves that seethe and flow.

After patiently standing sentinel for many centuries, an ancient
evergreen yew tree succumbs to turbulent winter gales,
against a backdrop of leaden clouds, a flock of calling Pink-Footed
Geese fly overhead creating a vacillating V shaped trail.

The shimmering arch of a prismatic artist’s palette rainbow
briefly colours brooding storm clouds of layered slate grey,
glossy holly’s cardinal red berries and winter jasmine’s yellow

flowers bring welcome colour to a cold, crisp January day.

An early woodland snowdrop’s diaphanous bell shaped flower
peeps above an overnight dusting of crystalline snow,
an undulating field of wild poppies, reminiscent of a Monet
painting, tissue paper blooms embellish with a rich scarlet glow.

The drumming of a territorial woodpecker on a nearby tree
can be heard echoing on a tranquil misty spring morn,
below trees unfurling with chartreuse leaves, the welcome radiance
of daffodils yellow flowers adorn an awakening spring lawn.

The petals of pink and white crab apple blossom with a delicate
sweet almond scent decorate a wise old gnarled tree,
you are always there surrounding me in the beauty of nature’s seasons,
I only have to take a moment, open my eyes and see.
