The Four Seasons

The delicate fragrance of wild yellow honeysuckle interwoven with a tangled profusion of
 a linear hedge of blackthorn,
a melodic male blackbird initiates the celebratory chorus that announces the arrival of a
 summer’s breaking dawn,
a prodigious dust-tinted orange harvest moon emanates above the shadowed silhouette of
a distant horizon many miles away,
ephemeral vibrant red admiral and peacock butterflies alight to feed on flower’s rich nectar
released by golden sun’s rays.

The expeditious overnight emergence of a colourful red and white spotted toadstool with
it’s skirt of delicate white frills,
an abundance of burnished brown conkers lay encased in spiky lime green husks on a
 nebulous morn, calm and still,
on a luxurious variegated carpet, fallen leaves of russet red, amber and green are painted
 with frost’s crystalline white,
adjacent and distant tawny owls call under the silver glittering starlit canopy of an ebony

 black velvet night.

Undulating clifftops overlook a windswept beach embellished with a transient dusting of
 pristine pure white snow,
adjoining the tempestuous pewter grey sea with white horses riding spurning crests of
 waves that seethe and flow,
after patiently standing sentinel for many centuries, an ancient yew tree succumbs to
turbulent winter gales,
against a backdrop of leaden clouds, a flock of calling pink-footed geese fly overhead
creating a vacillating V shaped trail.

The drumming of a territorial scarlet, black and white woodpecker can be heard echoing
 on a tranquil morn,
below trees unfurling with chartreuse leaves, the cheerful faces of yellow daffodils adorn
  an awakening spring lawn,
the petals of pink and white crab apple blossom with a delicate almond scent decorate an
  old gnarled twisted tree,
you are always there surrounding me in the sheer beauty of each of nature’s seasons,
I only have to take a moment, open my eyes and see.

In loving memory of Eileen Bond 1927 – 2018

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.

My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s joy of nature and how they enjoyed the changes of the seasons throughout the year.

My poems have been very well recieved at both church and crematorium services, adding a very personal accolade.
