An image showing a steam train funeral poem.
A 10 verse poem is available at the foot of the page .

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.
My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s love of steam trains.
My poems have been very well received at both church and crematorium services, adding a very personal accolade.

A B12 locomotive patiently waits at horizontal red and
white track signals, sturdy and workmanlike in glossy black,
the distinctive sound of a train’s musical steam whistle carried
on transient light wind, travels a mile down the track.

Reminiscent of a Monet painting, wild scarlet red flowering
poppies embroider an undulating field of ripening wheat,
an apple green locomotive waits in the station for the
signal to rise, radiating a visible shimmering wave of heat.

The elegance of the striped coffee brown and vintage cream
livery of luxurious Pullman carriages, pure decadence class,
encased in a trackside’s glass paned emerald green and cream
signal box, long levers tipped with highly polished brass.

Ornamental yet functional , a carriage’s silver luggage racks
protrude above sumptuous sprung cherry red velour seats,
meticulously restored Gresley vintage Quad Art carriages, the
the M&GN design practical, elegant and neat.

The symmetry of the criss cross diamond design above the
curving arch of a decorative wrought iron pedestrian bridge,
an original red and white ‘STOP’ sign among a carpet of
blooming purple heather on a windswept moorland ridge.

The neat columns of small black print advertising arrivals
and departures of the yellowing Victorian timetable,
sitting on the platform, an old fashioned brown leather
suitcase has a handwritten cursive luggage address label.

The pleasing symmetry of different sized silver spoke
4 – 6- 2 wheels, circular metal harmony in a line,
the steam speed record holder, the A4 Pacific Class
Mallard’s kingfisher blue, outer streamlining so fine.

Glamorous Art Deco railway posters display national
holiday locations printed in colours vibrant and bold,
a soot black chimney discharges billowing clouds of white

smoke which follows the train on a day frosty and cold.

The graceful curving artistry of a railway viaduct’s soaring
obsidian brick arches crossing a wide river valley,
the metallic double clunk of the red and black electric Tyler
Tablet system issuing the single line track token key.

The evocative smell of coal smoke, the ‘chuff ‘ as a train
pulls away from the station, all that you loved so dear,
whenever I see a steam train making it’s way along the
track, this brings you ever closer, brings you ever near.
