Sheringham

The colourful stripes of the bustling weekend market stalls selling all manner
  of goods,
the colourful summer gardens, tearooms and leafy winding trails in a dappled
   hilltop wood,
on a steep beach gangway lay crab pots, rope and fishing boats in scarlet, navy
 and white,
the tapering golden rays of a setting sun highlight tranquil mirrored sea in
    gentle evening twilight.

The Poppy Line has a green and cream signal box with the station’s matching
   striped canopy nearby,
a steam whistle sounds and the train pulls under a bridge billowing smoke clouds
  into nearby sky,
the wooden criss cross railway fence where mainline meets preserved and the
  nostalgia of steam,
an undulating clifftop golf course with worn sandy paths lined by gorse leading to
 manicured greens.

Sheringham Park has towering mature woodland and a folly with distant windmill
 and sea views,
leaf cushioned paths meander through flowering rhododendrons and azaleas in
    every shade and hue,
durning summer’s busy carnival week, colourful swags of bunting line the length of
 the main street,
a thriving little theatre and decorative clock tower wait at a junction where two
 roads meet.

The inshore lifeboat’s slipway reaches across rounded grey cobbles surrounded
 by golden sand,
a row of beach huts overlook large rocks protecting the promenade where sea
 meets the land,
a curving sea wall with picturesque murals, the ever-changing tides and skies,
this town you loved so dear,
walking along the promenade in beautiful sunshine or a blustery autumn gale,
brings you ever closer, brings you ever near.

In loving memory of James Farthing 1929 – 2017

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.

My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s love of Sheringham.

My poems have been very well recieved at both church and crematorium services, adding a very personal accolade.
