Scotland

Backlit by rugged grey rock, a mountain stream’s liquid silver ribbon
slowly winds it’s way to the valley floor,
a variegated profusion of rich purple and soft pink flowering heather
 embellishes a windswept highland moor,
a remote beach cove sculpted by the sea to the shape of an oyster
shell, comprising of sand grains of purest white,
shallow pellucid turquoise blue water with sparkling metallic diamonds
  reflect the sun’s candescent light.

Glittering wet obsidian rocks governed by the tide’s daily rhythm
decorated with green and red dulse seaweed,
an industrious sea otter shakes crystal droplets of water from his
coat then settles down to feed,
in an isolated shadowed glen waits a bothy with a thatch roof bleached
white by mercurial Scottish weather,
the decorative speckled head with red waffles of a native grouse
appears above hibernating brown winter heather.

An artist’s palette rainbow accentuates a castle as it alights briefly
on an outlying rocky piece of land,
against an imposing scenic backdrop of magisterial austere mountains,
the remote scene breathtakingly grand,
ebony still water reflects a reverse mirror image of copper tinted conifers
created by a cirrocumulus mackerel sky,
the lower green moss covered rocks of the Glencoe mountains softened
where nebulous dawn mist lies.

Woodland autumnal leaves of green, burnished copper and rich amber are
highlighted by a golden setting sun,
across a windswept snowy glen with exposed grass hillocks a brown hare
 speckled with winter white runs,

placed in a concentric circle overlooking Harray Loch, grey standing stones
tell of times past,
with soaring mountainous vistas, skies, light and colour in perpetual flux, you’ll
never tire of this glorious landscape so vast.
