An image showing a funeral poem about Holt.

A poem can express innermost emotions after the loss of a loved one or friend.
My poetry is written to be gently uplifting and evocative, reminding the reader or listeners of the loved one or friend’s love of Holt.
My poems have been very well received at both church and crematorium services, adding a very personal accolade.

Poppy image by

A vintage steam train whistles as it pulls out of the station
at the terminus of The Poppy Line,
a shire horse drawn farm wagon used to transport the
passengers on summer days warm and fine.

Behind the grand facades of Georgian houses are vibrant
cobbled yards tucked away out of sight,
an obsidian winter’s night transformed by shops decorated
 with white cascading Christmas lights.

The sash windows of a former coaching inn overlook the
market place in the centre of town,
the narrow road to nearby coast travels over heathland,
the autumnal bracken fading to a golden brown.

The ornate ironwork of the town clock above the blue and
white frontage of a large family run store,
following the decorative bronze plaques on the historical
circular walk of the Owl Trail Heritage Tour.

Sitting alongside wide shop steps, an impressive stone
lion patiently watches over the main street,
near a hall’s carved gatepost with a pineapple finial and
Victorian gas lamp where two roads meet.

Walking along a winding undulating sculpture trail at a local
country park among towering evergreen pines,
the relocated carved doorway of a historical school house
displays heraldic shields and arching elegant lines.

A former wine warehouse with stone plaques where a
picture gallery’s window displays works of art,
an eclectic mix of independent shops and brick and cobbled
buildings make up this unique town’s heart.

It’s narrow streets and hidden yards display pictures, books
and antiques, this town you loved so dear,
walking around this delightful town in summer’s bustle or winter
quiet, brings you ever closer, brings you ever near.
